What do you know about husky dogs? |
|
A medium-sized dog, the Siberian Husky dogs is just a hair taller than long. Weight is between 35
and 60 pounds, with a height range of 20 to 23 1/2 inches.
The a dogs husky has upright ears and eyes that range in color from brown to blue, or perhaps even have one of each color.
The topline is level, and the neck is carried in a straight line. The thick tail is carried up in a sickle or occasionally just straight out from behind.
Siberian Huskies have many undercoats and a highly dense, velvety coat. There is a short ruff on the neck, but there are no long fringes on the legs or tail. Black to white and every shade in between make up the color spectrum. The majority of dogs do have white markings, especially on the legs and chest.
Siberian Huskies are typical northern dogs in terms of temperament. Although intelligent, they also tend to be independent and stubborn. They enjoy being around people but require rigorous, kind teaching from an early age. These dogs husky were raised to run, so occasionally their passion for running might triumph over their love for their owners. Siberian huskies typically get along well with people, even kids.
The majority of Siberian huskies get along well with other dogs, especially those they grew up with. They may chase cats and animals since they have a strong prey drive. Siberian huskies enjoy digging out cool spots to lie in, therefore they can be diggers, especially during warm weather. They do howl, but they don't typically bark.
History: The Siberian Husky is something that both Russia and the US wish to claim. The Chukchi tribe of northeast Asia created the breed more than 3,000 years ago to aid them in their nomadic life as sled pullers. The breed undoubtedly has spitz ancestors.
Many sled dog races were organized during the Alaskan gold rush for entertainment and to evaluate a working stock. Despite their diminutive stature, the Chukchi dogs proved to be excellent endurance runners.
When a team of huskies raced 340 miles through violent blizzards to deliver serum for diphtheria-stricken Nome, their reputation as a racing sled dog was solidified. This breed is now widely known thanks to the film "Balto" and numerous stories based on the same concept.
The majority of Siberian Huskies in existence today are cherished family pets, but many still compete in local sled races and love to skijor alongside their owners.
